New heart design

Last Friday night I designed another heart by being inspired by a vintage yoke edging. I can't decide the perfect necklace for it. should it be rings and chains, a combination of rings and set stitches of course all with beads. I thought the rings and chains were too heavy for such a delicate piece. I keep wasting thread trying to make up my mind. I am leaning more toward split rings and beads at the moment.
I used Lizbeth thread size 20 color # 119

My prize arrived today from Marilee

My threads from Marilee arrived today. What brilliant colors. I used Pizzazz before on some of my hearts. The color a leaf falls is really lovely too.
I never heard of Belle Armoire book before it is interesting and an inspiring magazine.

daisy picot flowers and butterflies

Since today was a miserable day out, I worked on the daisy picot technique from Riet's book. I ran out of thread on my shuttles so this is what I ended up with.

The daisy picot

I made some daisy picots this morning trying out my new book called Daisy picot patterns by Riet Surtel-Smeulders. I think Meagan will like these designs too.

Well back to tatting. I was going to go out and work in my garden with St. Francis but I think I will chill for awhile and take a nap since I got up at 7:30 a.m. this morning since I did not go to bed until 4:00 a.m. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Clarification on web links

I do not put web links on my blog for two simple reasons.

1. I don't want to monitor the links to make sure they are still active
2. Since this is my blog, I feel like I should be able to present my blog how I want it presented and not how other people want me to present it.

If I use your pattern I do give your name, a web search with your name will find all your links. To me that is sufficient and the most current way.

I hope I have not offended anyone, if I have I am sorry, but this is my Fish Bowl of Tatting.

The Ribbons are Home

Our Ribbons are home and in their rightful place for everyone to enjoy. A close up of my granddaughter Meagan's
winnings.

I was delighted to receive not only ribbons and money but 2 signed tatting books, one by Riet and one by Nina.

Tatted Necklace

I just finished tatting up another of Jan Stawasz's designs from his book Tatting.

All my tatting is done in front side/back side tatting.
Instead of tatting it in size 10 thread I used Manuela size 20 thread in green. You do have to compensate by making more rings in the design. I made 21 rings before working on the 7 front designs. I could eliminate 3 rings on either side and still have a comfortable lenght. 3 rings w/beads = 1 inch or 15mm.

The 1st ring and last ring I did a SCMR so I could throw off a small ring for the clasp. I could eliminate SCMR and use a chain and ring instead. The necklace measures 19.25 inches or 49cm.

State Fair winners

Well! Well! Again, Meagan won 1st place in the youth category for her tatting. Her family is so proud of her we can hardly stand it. What an awesome job she did. She even handmade her pillow too.

Congratulations Meagan for a job well done, Nana

Meagan's SC State Fair Entry

Well leave it to my 10 year old granddaughter Meagan to blow me away with her tatting and designs on a pillow she made herself. I understand Meagan worked on this design and the elements for months. Meagan wanted to surprise me, and that she did. She designed a lot of the elements in her flower garden herself except for the watering can which is a Jane Eborall design, and the DOVES,(Meagan told me Nana those are not fishes, silly me to think other wise) ROFLOL I don't remember who's design that was. Notice the watering can with the water drops falling on the flowers. All I can say is AWESOME Meagan

Tissue Box with paper flowers

I also entered the paper punch category. Here I made paper flowers from the punches I used and adorned a wooden tissue box painted in creamy yellow and added white braid to complete the design.

2009 SC State Fair Entries

Well today was the day to bring our entries to the SC State Fair.

A design by Jan Stawasz simply called Doily I call it the flowering doily. I tatted this using Manuela size 20 thread instead of size 10 as the
instructions call for.

My next entry design by Jan Stawasz simply called Necklace
from the green set.
I prefer to call it The wedding Ensemble tatted in Manuela size 20 thread. I did make a pair of earrings to match using one of the motifs in the design using 3 beads on the outside chains intead of 2. I ended with chain 5, r = 7ds, ch 5.

When making earrings or a necklace I usually make a ring of 7 or 8 ds to add my link to. I do not use jump rings. Since I worked in the jewelry industry making Sarah Coventry jewelry in New England for years, I had a jewelers tool to open and close the link.

Well my life is being comsumed by tatting. I am no wheres near done. As soon as my pieces are finished, you will all be the first ones to see them. I keep asking myself why do I wait for the last minuete to get things done, when I had one year to finish my projects.

Maybe, because I did not decide which pieces needed to be done....LOL

Oh! the delimas of retirement...ROFLOL

What is your rainbow colors

Its been awhile since I posted. I have been busy working on my state fair projects. Nothing is done and time is running out. Its too hot to work in my garden. I am waiting for it to get a little cooler. I thought I would take a break from it all and have a little fun. Now that I had my fun its back to working on my state fair projects.

Your rainbow is intensely shaded blue, pink, and white.

What is says about you: You are a tranquil person. You appreciate everyone around you. You are a good listener and your friends are glad to have you around in difficult times. People depend on you to make them feel secure.

Well it has been a busy week so far. The property we bought next door is forever vacant. Carolina House Movers FINALLY! transported the house to another location. My Serenity Garden is going to be where the house use to be.

Split Ring Flowering Fall Lanyard

I just finished my flowering fall Lanyard. It measures 31 inches long when finished. I started off with a small ring to hold the link and then I continued with flowers, butterflies leaves and chains in different combinations joining them to each other as I went along. There is no pattern it is just a free flowing piece as you wish it to be.
I used 2 shuttles with size 20 Libeth thread color # 121 and color # 683 for the chains and leaves.
The 1st ring is 8ds
The flowers, leaves and butter flies have 3-4-4-3
The chains are 8-8
The split rings are 7-7

Once I finished my flowering part, I proceeded into the split rings. When I felt it long enough I proceeded with the last part of flowering part and ended with a small ring of 8ds.
